
Edward Burke is Assistant Professor in the History of War at University College Dublin (UCD). Prior to joining UCD, he was an Assistant/Associate Professor in International Relations at the University of Nottingham (2017-2022).
In 2020 Edward was awarded a two-year early career leadership fellowship by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council to conduct research on paramilitarism in Ulster.
His most recent book is An Army of Tribes: British Army Cohesion, Deviancy and Murder in Northern Ireland (Liverpool University Press, 2018). In 2024 Cambridge University Press will publish his next monograph, Ulster’s Lost Counties: Loyalism and Paramilitarism since 1920.
Edward is currently undertaking research on the experiences of veterans of the First World War and Russian Civil War as policemen in Northern Ireland.
