
Francisco J. Leira-Castiñeira (1987) is Director of the Degree in History, Geography and History of Art at the Universidad Internacional Isabel I (Spain). He holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a master’s degree in documentary sciences from the University of A Coruña.
He is the author of Franco’s Soldiers. Recruitment and Combat in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) (Liverpool: Liverpool University Press) (also published in Spanish and Galician). He is also co-editor with Foster Chamberlin and Ángel Alcalde of a collection of essays, The Crucible Francoism (Sussex Academic Press). He has published articles in journals such as Critical Military History, War in History and War and Society.
He is also a contributor to the Virtual Museum of the Spanish Civil War, created by Antonio Cazorla Sánchez and Adrian Shubert at York University.
