
Dr Sofya Anisimova is an ERC Postdoctoral Research Fellow working on the project ‘Age of Civil Wars in Europe, 1914-1949’, where she intends to contribute by conducting research on the Russian Civil War and changes in understanding of the war as a phenomenon after the period of Civil Wars in Europe.
Before coming to UCD, Sofya completed her PhD at the University of St Andrews. Her doctoral research focused on Russia’s engagement with the Entente in 1914-1917 and aspects of coalition military strategy. She also holds MA degrees in History of War from King’s College London and Higher School of Economics (Moscow). Her broader research interests include theory of strategy and social history of the First World War, and she has published papers on questions of veterans of the First World War in Soviet Russia and in emigration as well as the memory of the Russian Expeditionary Force.
